J's 8 Day Dive Trip
Thursday, 23 October 2008
Eight days out at sea! I had never been out for that long. Diving? I had never done that either! (besides one beach dive) This was be a trip I will never forget and I am unfathomably grateful for the opportunity. The hardest part of all of this though was waking up at 5 or 6 am everyday. That makes for a rude awakening, but once I got out of my bunk and saw the sea, all that was forgotten.

Being on a boat with professional photographer/divers was something most people never have an chance to do. I've been with tourists and fishermen, but photographers are a little different. It was cool to be able to talk about filmmaking and photoshop with them. I even trained a few in Final Cut and Photoshop.

Everyone was really nice, and the trip was essentially drama free give or take a few green faces and leaking camera houses. The food was amazing. I never ate so much in my life, but making those dives and swimming that much requires a lot of nutrition. I think I may have lost weight even though I tripled my diet on this trip.

I experienced so much in eight days from getting lost in a kelp forest, to swimming with sea lions, to running out of air. Not to mention all the stories I heard back from people about other events happening underwater. The visibility was always great and the weather was always nice to us. While my ears did hurt for a couple of days because of bad equalizing, I did not get the bends or swallow any water.

Hopefully, this is not my last dive trip and I will be able to get back in the water and break free once again.
