Sign-up online to experience ScienceOnline2010 next week, January 14-17, a conference bringing science and media together in an event to explore science on the Web. The goal of this event is to bring together scientists, physicians, patients, educators, students, publishers, editors, bloggers, journalists, writers, web developers, programmers and others to discuss, demonstrate and debate online strategies and tools for doing science, publishing science, teaching science, and promoting the public understanding of science. Annie Crawley will be speaking about the trip to the North Pacific Gyre with Project Kaisei and Scripps Institution of Oceanography.Social Media and blogging is changing the world of how we get our news. This conference brings everyone together to discuss and raise awareness about current science and disseminating information to the public. The internet has been around for 15 years, and as a teenager has completely revolutionized the way our world is connected. ScienceOnline2010, now in its fourth year, is one of the best ways to raise awareness and partner people together. ScienceOnline2010 addresses a variety of issues and perspectives on science communication, including science literacy, the popularization of science, science in classrooms and in homes, debunking pseudoscience, using blogs as tools for presenting scientific research, writing about science, and health and medicine. Annie Crawley from Dive Into Your Imagination will be attending the conference along with Miriam Goldstein. They participated in the SEAPLEX Expedition sponsored by Project Kaisei and UC Ships Fund. Ms. Goldstein was chief scientist aboard the SEAPLEX cruise with Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Ms. Crawley was hired to document the trip using photo and video. The expedition was covered in blogs and mainstream media. Ms. Crawley, founder of Dive Into Your Imagination, will be speaking about how she uses the internet to raise awareness and changes the way a new generation views our ocean. As a filmmaker, photographer and writer combined with field biologist, boat captain and scuba instructor, she will share stories and videos from around the globe while you learn how you can use multi-media, create a program and reach out to your audience. Annie will share with you expedition footage from the SEAPLEX expedition to the North Pacific Gyre that Project Kaisei hired Dive Into Your Imagination to document, cuttlefish fornicating in Indonesia, Great White Sharks from Mexico and special archival footage that has never been broadcast before from the 1960’s. There is a balance that is needed for real science to be documented and shared with the world. This session will be sure to inspire and motivate you!
