When you reach a child, you change history, Margo Peyton is a true Ocean hero and has been changing the lives of children and their families for the past ten years. She introduces kids and their parents to the adventures of scuba diving, snorkeling, ocean education and family friendly travel. Aqua Mom Margo pioneered ocean family travel and founded Kids Sea Camp. Please join Dive Into Your Imagination as we congratulate and celebrate Kids Sea Camp’s 10th Anniversary Year!“My hope for future generations is that they will grow to love the ocean and all the life it holds so they do what they can to protect and preserve it.” Margo Peyton If you have a family, love the ocean, diving, beaches, snorkeling, travel, and want to meet the like minded, then Kids Sea Camp Family Dive Adventures gives you somewhere to go. Founded by Margo Peyton, it creates the perfect family vacation allowing kids to learn to dive, or snorkel, make friends with other kids and learn to dive with their family. As a child, Margo would sit on the dock for hours waiting for her Dad to show up from work to go fishing with her. He loved the ocean and she made him drag her along with him on trips whether he wanted to or not! Her dad was her hero. They spent hours together watching Humpback whales; he would throw Margo off the boat into pods of wild dolphins. He talked about all the marine life and taught her everything he knew, she was like a sponge and absorbed it all. Margo founded Kids Sea Camp so she would be able to share these same types of experiences with her kids while inspiring other families to do the same. Margo glows as she tells this story and you can still see her sitting by her dad’s side watching the sunset!“Safety is always first,” Margo boasts. All of our tour operators understand the importance of safety. The operators Kids Sea Camp works with, like Divetech in Grand Cayman, Buddy Dive in Bonaire, Sam's Tours in Palau and Turneffe Island Resort in Belize, embrace the idea of kids and families. They realize as we do too, the importance of our future, our children. When Margo started the program, her daughter Jennifer, 4 years old, was afraid of the water and the ocean. In Curacao, Margo was photographing the kids with the dolphins, and there was a young dolphin named Theresa who happened to be the same age as Jennifer, 4. The trainer had Theresa the dolphin away from where the kids were, because Theresa did not trust kids and so they did not force her to participate. Theresa the dolphin made her way over to Jennifer and started nosing her feet. Jennifer slipped off the step and started to pet Theresa, and then Jennifer stepped off the platform holding onto Theresa and Theresa held her up and they bonded instantly. Jennifer lost her fear of the water and Theresa lost her fear of kids, they spent time together each day for the next 3 weeks. Jennifer had this amazing friendship and trust that allowed her to develop her love of the Ocean with this encounter with a dolphin. Kids Sea Camp has impacted hundreds of children and families every summer with unique Ocean experiences. Positive experiences with the Ocean changes lives. The Ocean gives us so much. Kids Sea Camps create an amazing journey, full of discovery, adventure plus friendships, camaraderie plus so much more. Incredible experiences can be had for all. When you choose Kids Sea Camp, you can travel to places such as the Bahamas, Curacao, Honduras, Grand Cayman, Fiji, Costa Rica, and more. Families explore dolphins and experience releasing turtles from the turtle farm. Families dive together in these unforgettable locations, gaining more scuba diving certifications and even learning about underwater photography. The difference between these trips and others are the focus on the safety of the children. Margo recounts, “I've been going to Bonaire at Buddy Dive, since 1997, I still love sitting on the dock watching sail boats and sunsets. We sit and proudly watch all the kids jumping off the dock with brave giant strides, geared up and going on their first night (scuba) dive. I laugh so hard watching the kids each year getting licked by the donkeys while sitting in the back of the trucks as we drive through the park on a donkey safari. I like to photograph the families, sailing around the world’s largest salt track on Blo-Karts, racing each other and laughing as the parents try to catch up with their kids.” Last year was the first live-aboard family trip in the Galapagos, one of our favorite destinations. A few highlights include diving with young sea lions, snorkeling with penguins, whale sharks, wild dolphins, marine iguanas and nesting blue footed booby birds. Margo also started a charity called Ocean Wishes that sponsors scholarships for kids around the US and around the world to become PADI divers. They also sponsored sports equipment and dive equipment to the Malolo School in Fiji and donated and raised funds for the Chamber and clinic in Roatan Honduras in 2008 and 2009.
