Marine Debris Perfect WaterWhat is wrong with this picture?  This image was not taken as an advertisement for the water bottle company.  Annie Crawley took this photograph while on a shoot up in the Pacific Northwest, it was bobbing on the shore of one of the remote San Juan Islands.  We have a problem on our planet and the leaders from around the world are meeting right now to discuss the impact we have made on our environment.

The world is changing as we speak.  Our voices are being heard about the environmental issues we care about the most.  The United Nations Climate Change Conference started two days ago on December 7th continues until the 18th in Copenhagen.  This is the 15th Climate Change Conference for the United Nations.  Around 15,000 people will attend the conference hoping to change the course we are currently on.  Participants are urged to remain sustainable while attending the conference itself, as they are offered free public transportation and  given easy tips to “green” their lives.

The conference will feature forums, debates, lectures, award ceremonies for those already making a difference, and even tours of energy efficient facilites. There is something for everyone- from businessmen, to educators, to engineers and scientists, everyone can make a difference.  All of these events have one common thread- to find new ways we can save the planet and raise awareness about them so they can be implemented worldwide.

The Danish have composed a climate compromise in hopes that all nations can come to an agreement about what needs to be done.  It features proposals about actions that they believe should be taken.  Negotiations must be made before concrete goals can be set, and this will happen before the end of the conference.

These changes need to be made for our future- to save our resources, to save us money, and to create a better world for generations to come. We need to realize the role we play in ecology.  We are animals too and we are like an invasive species that throws off the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
