***MatiB Reporting
Our World Underwater was amazing this year! With thousands of people pouring in, and over 260 vendors showcasing the best in scuba, art, education, entertainment, and more, the 39th Our World Underwater was the place to be. I can’t wait for the 40th anniversary next year. It's going to be bigger and better than ever.
All weekend long the show was non-stop. I didn’t expect to see many people coming in Friday night, but boy was I wrong. Right from the start, people from all over were coming to the show. I met people from France, Indonesia, Australia, and all over the rest of the world. There were people that bought plane tickets just to fly to the show for one day! I knew Our World Underwater was one of the best dive shows around, but I guess I didn’t know just how big it was. One of the best events I saw this year was the kids exhibit. Truly kids are our future and they will protect what they love, so why not get them to love the ocean! The exhibit had everything from kids getting to paint with famous Ausi painter Ron “Rogest” Steven, to educational arts and crafts to artificial spray on tattoos. There was even a giant indoor pool so people who have never been scuba diving could try breathing underwater for the first time. Take it from me, one breath underwater on scuba and you’ll be loving it for life! |

Richard, you are an amazing photographer. How did you know you wanted to be a professional photographer?
I took a photography class in High School because at the time I thought it would be five easy credits, since anyone could take a picture. During the class there was a photo contest and since I am very competitive, I decided that I was going to win. When I won the contest, I thought maybe I could be a professional photographer. I really worked hard in the class from that day on, studying Ansel Adams, Jerry Ulesman, Diane Arbus, and Josef Karsh. Then I decided that if I were serious I would go to one of the best schools of photography, Brooks Institute of Photography, and I did. From then until now I have loved what I do.

Marie, can you tell us about yourself and how you ended up on the Solmar V with Shark Diving International heading to Guadalupe Island to go diving with Great White Sharks!
Yes, I’m from Guelph, Ontario Canada. Professionally, I began as a television broadcaster. Then I forayed into politics and while I did not get elected I gained valuable experience and opportunities that would open up new careers. This facilitated a return to school to study International Development and Political Science at the University of Guelph. |

Eric Shapiro is probably the biggest Great White Shark fan we have ever met! We recently went on a trip and was able to interview Eric on his adventure! Eric’s first description about his experience is well, wordless:
When I first saw a Great White on aboard the Solomar V, with Shark Diving International, I have to be honest and say that there are no words I can use to describe how amazing it was. I mean, how do you verbalize seeing a perfectly designed apex super predator for the first time in your life, fulfilling a life long dream? |
