Octopus use camouflage to protect themselves on the reef. They also change the color of their skin to communicate with one another. Watch this video and see if you can always spot the octopus!

What five senses do you have? We can see, touch, taste, smell and hear the world around us. Members of the cephalopod family, octopus have eight arms with two rows of suckers they use for feeling.

Octopus have highly sophisticated suckers! They taste, touch and even smell with their suckers! Masters of disguise, octopus use camouflage for protection. Can you see the octopus in the photograph below? It is blending into the coral reef. Octopus are giant blobs of protein that all animals would like to eat. They can change both the color and texture of their skin thousands of times in just one day.

We call an octopus home a den. They are territorial and have foraging grounds on the reef. They like to collect food and bring it back to their dens to dine. Although they do not have bones, they do have a sharp beak and use this to break through shells to get to the animal living inside. Octopus have great eyesight, can taste, touch and smell, but octopus have no sense of hearing. They are amazing animals to watch!

Avoid using plastic whenever possible. Bring canvas bags to the grocery store. What are other ways you can cut down on plastic?
