Barracudas. Nicknamed 'Tigers of the Sea' they fascinate us! Living in schools or alone on the reef, these fish have the greatest smiles! You can learn alot by the shapes of a fishes mouth and the type of teeth they have. Carnivorous Barracudas have razor sharp teeth they use to slash their prey. Check out the video of schooling barracuda...

They hunt fish at the golden hour on the reef, right as the sun goes down. Cudas have excellent eyesight and use the shadows to their advantage. Sleek by design they attack without a fish even know they are coming. Some barracuda stay in schools for protection.

"Why are some barracudas smarter than others?" The answer is: "Because some of them hang out in schools!" Have you heard that joke before?

Not all barracudas swim in schools. Giant barracuda are solitary creatures that live alone on the reef. They grow up to more than 3 feet long (1 meter).

Barracudas are carnivores and like to eat other fish for dinner. They have no interest in people so we should not be scared of them when scuba diving, but because of the shape of their mouths and their teeth, many people fear them. The way we stop fear is through knowledge and education. The more we know, the more we grow. Learning about the ocean animals discredits many ocean myths.
