Entertaining Environmental Education

From the moment Ocean Annie walks in front of your class, students will be encouraged to Dive Into Their Imagination, as real ocean animals from around the world are projected. Annie incorporates science, marine biology, geography, animal behavior and environmental education. Annie teaches, “Everything we do on land affects the ocean, whether we live in the middle of America or on one of our coasts.” Intertwined in her presentations are geography lessons, ocean facts and ways everyone, everyday can make a difference to our environment. “

The ocean is responsible for nearly 70% of the oxygen we breathe,” Ocean Annie shares, and she realizes children are our future,“I want to entertain and educate children and their parents about the ocean. I want you to fall in love with all the creatures of the ocean because, we protect what we love. I produced the Dive Into Your Imagination series and the Words for Life collection to motivate and inspire all the children of the world.” The DVD's contain audio tracks in English, Spanish or music only. Annie encourages and inspires people to live their dreams, using her life as an example, "I was born and raised in the city of Chicago. I never dreamed I would be an underwater photographer and filmmaker. I have traveled around the world. When kids ask me where I come from, they shout, The Sea? Yes, I'm a mermaid, who wants to be a mermaid with me?"

A natural born educator and dynamic speaker, Ocean Annie will entertain and inspire you, sharing her methods on educating children with multi-media presentations. Annie has spoken to nearly 15,000 children since the release of Ocean Life A to Z a book/dvd published by Reader’s Digest in February 2007. Annie also created the Dive Into Your Imagination collection, Visions of the Sea and The Camera Coach to help you in and out of your classroom. Annie’s children products are produced using real footage from around the world. Teachers and parents can play them in at home or in the classroom as teaching tools to engage students or choose to create your own lessons using her video. Annie takes you around the world from Papua New Guinea to Galapagos, Indonesia to Belize, California to Costa Rica with video, images and incredible stories all while giving factual information about the ocean.

Annie can work with your school curriculum to tailor make a program to suit individual needs.

TESTIMONIALS

Dear Children's Book Advocates,

I've just received word from author Annie Crawley that she will be in our area and available for honorarium school visits. I was fortunate enough to get to work with Annie in 8 different schools last year, and she was an enormous hit with both students and educators. I highly recommend her program to you. Interested schools should contact Annie directly to make all arrangements for her visit and details about her fees. Annie's contact info is:

Out of the hundreds of school author programs that I've worked with over the years, Annie Crawley's presentations stand out in several ways. The curriculum lessons are inherent, and include animal and ocean science studies, ecosystems, and ecology. The adventurous and creative nature of Annie's work makes her a wonderful role model for students, and her work is a terrific example of how exciting science can be and how important it is to our everyday lives. Her photography is remarkable - so much so that students sometimes have a hard time understanding that all of the beautiful images that they see in Annie's presentation are all part of her work! Oh, yes, I almost forgot - it is the only presentation that I've seen where the author gives her presentation in her full wetsuit (pre-K to 4th grade!).

TESTIMONIAL

Annie Crawley is a born teacher. She has that contagious spark of energy and enthusiasm that motivates students to learn. Annie has been a guest lecturer in my science classrooms at both the junior high and highschool level. Her amazing collection of underwater photography and video combined with her immense knowledge of marine biology make for mesmerizing presentations. She is able to connect with students of all levels - making the material relevant, engaging, and exciting. Annie exposes students to the magical world of the ocean, then inspires them to take better care of it. Students will come away from her lectures with a deeper understanding of the world around them, and the need to help protect it. I would highly recommend Annie Crawley as a guest presenter to students of any age. Her work and her message are truly inspirational.

TESTIMONIAL

I'm not big on "kodak" pictures, but there is a Kodak moment I will have with me forever. I always watch the children instead of the author. I have never seen the kids with wider eyes and so eager to participate. Annie took a subject, that for many of our children, is worlds away from their experiences, and hooked them (no pun intended). She was informative at their level. And the message she gives--go for your dreams, will be with them always. Thanks for the opportunity to meet her.

TESTIMONIAL

Thank you so much for giving our students the opportunity to hear and see Annie Crawley. Both the children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed her presentation. Her subject matter is one that appeals to any child, and her photographs are stunning. Even before her visit, the teachers were especially taken with them in the book and DVD. It was clear to us that Annie enjoys children. Coming in her wetsuit was a great idea. That captured their attention right away. She spoke to them in language they could understand, and her enthusiasm was infectious. I know we asked her to present to a large group - 225+, but she handled it well. I think she'd be even better with a smaller group, because she could have dialogue with them. I think that's a format that would be a natural for her. Thank you again for providing us with this special opportunity.

TESTIMONIAL

I worked with Annie Crawley through 2 days of 5 large school presentations that included students from 1st - 3rd grades. As an independent bookseller, I work with authors in schools in over 100 programs per year. I was impressed with how effectively Annie was able to speak with students on a level that they could easily understand. She was able to give them the vocabulary they needed to understand the underwater world and the environmental concepts that she imparted. The strong visual aspect of the program was nicely enhanced by Annie's narrative throughout the program. Annie was careful to take questions all through the program, making it easy for the children to keep pace and ask their questions in a timely manner. The topics covered included characteristics of mammals & fish, various animal body shapes and function, animal habitat and behavior, environmental effects of man on our oceans, ideas on how children can work to help protect the oceans, various aspects of Annie's career as an underwater photographer and videographer, and so much more. Annie's presentation was lively and filled with interesting facts and fascinating images. I am really looking forward to working with Annie again, and have been presenting her book to students and educators every chance I get.
