Craig Dobbin Composer Extraordinaire

Talented Craig Dobbin has been creating music since he was a baby! He wanted a toy saxophone for his two year old birthday, but his mom couldn't find one so she bought him a toy piano instead! He plays a multitude of instruments including guitar, drums and piano. Craig composed the music for the entire Dive Into Your Imagination® series, Ocean Life A to Z book/DVD and Visions of the Sea. He has enjoyed working with the Dive Into Your Imagination crew because, "Annie is so enthusiastic and gets so excited, it is contagious. There is nothing better than someone who cares about the quality instead of the deadline. She puts everything she has into a project. 100% of her heart is in everything she does."

Craig has worked as a composer for the past two decades. Craig has composed and produced music for four feature films, over 100 television documentaries, 5 series for television and more than 20 national commercials. He thrives on giving an emotional sense to what we view and creates music to convey that emotion.

Craig saw the importance of technology with music from its inception.

"I started with computers and music at the very beginning. I use G5, music editing software called Logic Studio. Right on the desktop I can have access to any sound I want. I have bunches of different computers running different stuff. You still need a good idea but the speed at which you can realize it has grown exponentially."

Craig started on a MAC at 18, more than 20 years ago! He originally got into computer music because he hated writing the music out with calligraphy and purchased a sequencer instead of a program that wrote. And then by accident he realized the computer had a lot of potential and never looked back.

"I became a composer because I didn’t get into Stanford law school. I always thought I wanted to be a lawyer. I never thought music would be a career. I applied to Stanford, and even though I was Valedictorian, I was not accepted to Stanford. So then I thought now what? What do I really want to do. So I tried music, and just went for it."

Craig is someone definitely living the dream and the biggest advice he can give to anyone is don’t be afraid of failure.

"I am living my dreams right now. Beautiful house, beautiful family doing what I love. I started in a one room apartment with two boys and my wife. I continue to live my dreams everyday! I think the one thing that happened to me that could be different from someone else is that, I always said yes. I viewed everything as an opportunity, regardless of what they were paying me. So I always said YES!"
