In addition to various types of programs you can choose to create, the audio is very important because it gives you the FEEL of your story. Sound is a vital component to getting your audience FEELING a certain way. You need to think about the sound and what the audience will hear. Following are choices you can do depending on how you want your story to unfold. Deciding this before you begin filming will help you create your story and give it the mood you want it to have! Narrator/Voice Over: You can use a camera microphone to record this, an off camera microphone or record your voice directly to the computer. There are sound recording studios you can rent, yet if you don’t have access or budget, a bathroom in someone’s home often works well because of the silence. You want to record in silence. What kind of voice over/narration do you want to have. Think about your favorite films. Can you name a few that use narration and voice over? Sometimes this is incorporated into the story in which you have a series of events and then there is a script that you write for a narrator.
On Camera Host: This requires someone to be willing to stand in front of the camera and participate with the audience, your viewers, and potentially the other people/subjects in the scene. Think of some different shows out there that use this type of storytelling. Dialogue: Using your actors or subjects and they are the voice of the film. Music: Every production needs music as a part of the soundtrack. This helps the pace of a production and if used correctly it will blend seamlessly with the images and you will not notice it, yet it is responsible for invoking feeling in your audience. Watch the examples below that demonstrate how two different types of music can make us feel about sharks! Happy Music
