School Group
Editing and Shooting Tips:
We filmed a promotional DVD for Truth Aquatics to promote their island excursions for school groups. During the interview the lighting was so bad that we decided not to use the headmaster on camera, we just used his voice as the narrator. We captured so much B-Roll footage (that is scenes that tell the story from a production standpoint, watch television and you will start to see this filler type footage in every interview) from the trip that we just needed to make sure we had enough coverage of him not addressing the camera to tell the story so we could still establish him as a character in this short piece.
Music and Narration:
Adding voice to any project adds a dimension to the story, yet you need to still have music, they each have their role in every production. We take for granted how important a script is and how much the visuals and the script must work together.

Story About the Day:
We were racing to film Steve in early morning light. This was a last minute request from the owner of Truth Aquatics on the third day of a live aboard boat charter. One of the rules the headmaster follows is no shaving. So once we were all ready to film, the sun had risen so high that we could not fill his shadows and the three day growth was just too much. We didn’t want to alarm him and tell him he just didn’t look good because we still wanted to capture his voice. So we shot a couple of takes of this and then just dropped the video and was able to use his voice to tell the story, without telling him how AWFUL he looked! Nobody would have thought he was a voice of reason because he looked so scraggly and if you are giving a positive testimonial about an operation, you need to think about the people you put in front of the camera as your voice!
Lesson:
This 'video testimonial' is less than a minute long and there are nearly 20 shots that compose this short clip. It is important that you have coverage of different angles so when you sit down to edit, it is easy to put your story together.
The Camera Coach®, Your Guide to Creating Underwater Video demonstrates and teaches you the necessary techniques needed to produce great video above and below the surface. You will learn shooting, lighting and editing techniques. This DVD teaches you sh
