This week we wanted to showcase our High Definition video, "The Channel Islands: California's Best Kept Secret." The problem with this is that our site doesn't except High Definition video. So what to do? This is where having a knowledge base of all aspects of video can really help. On this years Channel Islands trip you will have the opportunity to learn everything you would need to know about video. I will personally be teaching workshops on video editing, video compression, and uploading video to the internet. So for this video "The Channel Islands: California's Best Kept Secret" I really have two main options to show you this video in High Definition via the internet.

Watch the Video in High Definition!

camera coach I can ether put it up on Vimeo or YouTube. Both these site support HD video. Vimeo lets you upload 500 megabits of video and 1 HD video per week for free. You can upload more for a fee. YouTube let you upload up to 1 gigabit of video at a time! For this example I will use Vimeo. When compressing video for High Definition on the web I use two settings. I ether use a H.264 or a .Mpeg4. H.264 in full resolution is the best quality video you can put on the internet. The problem is that the files are so big that many sites wont except them or peoples computers can't watch them cause its too much info unless you have a really good computer and internet connection. Therefore I only use this if the video is less than 2 minutes or so. Otherwise use .Mpeg4 which is slightly less quality and the audio isn't as good but its about half the size of an H.264. So for this video which is about 9 minutes I used .Mpeg4. Next I uploaded it to our Vimeo account and lastly I linked that to our site and to this newsletter. For more information on video editing, compressing, and uploading you can visit our forum or sign up for our trip August 22-26 to get the full experience! On the trip there will be still camera and video pros as well as workshops on editing both general and for Final Cut Pro. Come dive the channel islands with us and take your pictures and video to the next level.
